Seiko - Champion Alpinist Vintage "2nd Generation Alpinist" Circa 1963 Ref. J13043

Here is this Seiko Champion Alpinist, reference J13043, dating from circa 1963. This reference belongs to the early generations of the Alpinist and stands out for its particularly distinctive sporting aesthetic for the early 1960s.

Its 35.5 mm stainless-steel case features a robust profile with beautifully shaped lugs. The silver and anthracite sector dial is particularly interesting, with fine radial lines, a detailed minute track and various luminous elements. Unfortunately, this example shows several visible signs of wear and deterioration on the dial, consistent with its age and past use. The hour and minute hands as well as the seconds hand retain their vintage luminous material.

The history of the Alpinist began in the late 1950s, when Seiko developed the model with mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts in mind. In the early 1960s, the Alpinist joined the Champion collection and adopted a much more dynamic design, with the J13043 now being one of the most recognizable references from this era. Produced around 1963, this generation is particularly distinguished by its elaborate sector dial and forms part of the early history of Seiko sports watches.

The watch is powered by a 17-jewel Seikosha hand-wound mechanical movement equipped with Diashock shock protection.
