Here is this Certina DS Automatic, reference 5801 112, dating from around 1965. A beautiful vintage sports watch from Certina’s famous “DS” collection, standing for “Double Security”, developed around a particularly robust construction designed to provide increased protection for the movement against shocks.

Its 36 mm stainless-steel case, manufactured by Huguenin Frères, features the well-balanced proportions typical of Swiss sports watches from the 1960s. It is complemented by its original signed Certina crown.

The true character of this example lies in its superb tropical dial, which has developed a warm and relatively uniform brown patina over the decades. The applied hour markers are highlighted with elegant black lacquer, while the hour and minute hands retain their original luminous material. A date window is positioned at 3 o’clock, while the “DS” signature at 6 o’clock completes this particularly attractive configuration.

It is powered by the Certina calibre 25-651 automatic movement, featuring 28 jewels, operating at 19,800 vph and offering approximately 44 hours of power reserve. The movement will be regulated as closely as possible to achieve the best possible timekeeping performance considering its age.

The watch is fitted with a new black leather strap and a generic stainless-steel buckle.
