Citizen - Bullhead Automatic Chronograph Vintage Circa 1970 Ref. 67-9011

Here is this Citizen Bullhead Automatic Chronograph, reference 67-9011, dating from around 1970. A particularly distinctive Japanese vintage chronograph, instantly recognisable thanks to the unusual case architecture that earned it the famous “Bullhead” nickname.

Its 38 mm stainless-steel case is distinguished by the positioning of the crown and two chronograph pushers on the upper section of the case rather than along its traditional right-hand side. This characteristic configuration resembles the horns of a bull and directly explains the “Bullhead” nickname.

Its silver dial features a superb contrasting configuration with two black subdials, complemented by a third black display at 6 o’clock incorporating the day and date windows. Orange accents on the subdial hands and the central chronograph seconds hand reinforce the distinctly sporty 1970s character of the watch. A black tachymeter scale completes the design around the perimeter of the dial.

It is powered by the Citizen calibre 8110A automatic movement, a particularly interesting integrated chronograph calibre from this period, notably featuring a column wheel and a flyback function allowing the chronograph to be instantly restarted.
